Esoteric, Enchanting, and Extraordinary—Zhang Yuanyuan’s Solo Exhibition
In exploring Chinese art, beyond the traditional aesthetics of “extrinsic learned form nature, intrinsic founded on cultivation” the mystical narratives from Sanxingdui to The Songs of Chu and The Classic of Mountains and Seas reflect humanity’s collective unconscious. Artist Zhang YuanYuan carries this spirit forward, drawing on her reflections after the 311 earthquake and blending her Hubei roots with Japanese culture. Using anthropomorphic storytelling and color of white and gold, she crafts vivid yet elegant scenes, merging Song Dynasty ink traditions with innovative materials like beeswax for a unique cultural fusion.
