Introduction to Li Tingting
Since childhood, Li Tingting lived in a private ancestral home in the ancient city of Pingyao in China’s Shanxi Province. Due to work, her parents later moved with Li to the former residence of the Republican Period’s richest millionaire, Kong Yangxi in the Taigu District of Jinzhong City, where Li lived until leaving home to attend Shanxi Normal University. As for these two courtyard mansions that blended northern and southern architectural styles with their large-scale classical structure, every section of interlocking bucket arches, the carved beams and painted ridgepoles, the gelled patterning and gilding and other decorative details, Li Tingting was quite familiar with all of them.
Chinese classical architecture sustains the greatest weight of aesthetic synthesis: during her childhood, Li was influenced heavily by many artistic forms such as sculpture, painting, and calligraphy which possess the visual symbolism and related moral implications of cultural aesthetic. In the ink creations of the future Li Tingting, these visual memories of childhood would have a deep and long-lasting influence.
With ink-painting techniques that are neither freehand nor meticulous and themes neither lyrical nor subjective, these transformations bring a different texture to contemporary ink. Li Tingting’s creations have quickly attracted interest, and in recent years have exhibited actively in important art museums across China such as the Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art, the Liu Haisu Art Museum, the Long Museum, and the Today Museum, as well as receiving a good deal of overseas invitations in the U.S., France, Germany, and South Korea.
