Introduction to Chan Sui Ying
Chan Sui Ying (b. 1991, Hong Kong) majored in Fine Art at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Since her university years, she has received numerous accolades, including the Hong Kong Gongbi Painting Society Creation Award, the Faculty of Arts Outstanding Student Award at CUHK, the Professor Fung Wing Kei Award for Academic Achievement in Chinese Painting, and the Wucius Wong Award for Modern Ink Creation. In recent years, she has held multiple solo exhibitions such as JUNIHITOE, Sincere Fragrance – Scenery of Four Seasons, Remedy, Confetti, and Beyond Hiatus. Owing to her refined and mature painterly style, she was also invited to participate in the special exhibition Giuseppe Castiglione – New Media Art Exhibition at the National Palace Museum, Taipei.
As a representative of the new generation of ink artists in Hong Kong, Chan Sui Ying is deeply attentive to changes in weather and acutely sensitive to the subtle phenomena accompanying seasonal transitions. Through fleeting and delicate moments within the shifting rhythms of the seasons, she observes and renders the transformations of nature. Beyond capturing seasonal change through precise depictions of objects, her meticulous and elegant gongbi style also reveals a distinctly refined and poetic inner sensibility.
