01 Oct Grooving & Resonance A Two-Person Exhibition by Fok Wai Chung × I-Chun Chen
She gathers the subconscious, spirituality, memory, and emotion into a meticulous inner universe. Flora, celestial bodies, and otherworldly realms may appear distant from reality, yet her paintings are always marked by traces and symbols left behind by everyday life. These subtle suggestions prevent her spiritual garden from becoming an alternate world severed from the present. She gathers fragments of the mundane world and replants them in the garden of the mind. Her works are the chronicles of this spiritual gardener’s daily life and cultivation.
I-Chun Chen has worked for many years with moving images, animation, digital media, and AI-generated practices. This time, departing from her usual approach, she returns to the most direct and raw form of hand drawing. Her new series, which she has titled Weightless Playlist, transforms the sensations she experienced while traveling in Egypt—the windblown sand, speed, strange sounds, skin, and organs—into sound waves, bodily movement, and algorithmic paths, which are then translated into painting.
The turbulence of life in recent years has further strengthened her determination to shed the precise perfection of technology and confront, through her creative practice, a process that is at times fractured, at times joyful, at times disordered, and at times radiant.
The stillness in Fok Wai Chung’s work contains vitality; the movement in I-Chun Chen’s work is filled with sincerity. Fok Wai Chung’s classicism is not merely nostalgic; it is also a belief in transforming the present toward beauty and goodness. I-Chun Chen’s contemporaneity and engagement with technology affirm the value of embodiment in human art. Although their concerns and styles may appear different, they can come together like musical counterpoint to compose a harmony.
Grooving & Resonance does not seek to present a superficial synchronization. Instead, it explores a new resonance generated through the collision and feedback between two forms of life. What we hope to create is a dance floor for body and mind—one without a fixed beat or prescribed steps.
Visitors may glide through the andante and arias of Fok Wai Chung’s work, or lock into the heavy beats of I-Chun Chen’s bebop and rap. This is the invitation of Grooving & Resonance: follow your own tempo and sensations, find the movement that belongs to you, and groove freely.
