Working primarily with a large-format camera, he ventures deep into forests, seeking to capture the invisible world concealed within visible natural landscapes. In 2007, he presented his first body of work under the title <em data-start=\"384\" data-end=\"415\">Silent Respiration of Forests<\/em>, marking the beginning of a creative pursuit that has continued as the core of his practice ever since.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Shikama is attentive to fleeting states in nature. Through withered plants, trickling streams, and the shadows of branches, he contemplates the emergence and disappearance of life. Using a Hasselblad camera, he developed series such as <em data-start=\"757\" data-end=\"826\">Waning\u2014Evanescence: Forests, Fields, Lotus, Gardens, and Landscapes<\/em>. As his perception deepened, his photographic sites expanded from Japan to the United States and Europe, giving rise to series including <em data-start=\"964\" data-end=\"974\">Yosemite<\/em>, <em data-start=\"976\" data-end=\"995\">Pacific Northwest<\/em>, and <em data-start=\"1001\" data-end=\"1015\">Urban Forest<\/em>, which focuses on city parks.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, his work has further integrated experiences of travel and contemplation. The <em data-start=\"1141\" data-end=\"1167\">Sacred Places\u2014Meditation<\/em> series spans Europe, Japan, and the United Kingdom, recording once-in-a-lifetime encounters, while <em data-start=\"1267\" data-end=\"1305\">Memory Garden\u2014Animals, Plants, Seeds<\/em> reflects on time, memory, and preservation through specimens and greenhouse plants.
