Tse Yim On Biography
Tse Yim On was born in Hong Kong in 1974. In 1998, he received his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Fine Arts from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and in the same year was awarded the Urban Council Fine Arts Award. He earned his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in 2001. Tse has served as a part-time lecturer at the Zhuhai campus of Beijing Normal University, and is currently a part-time lecturer at the Department of Fine Arts, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Art School, and the School of Continuing and Professional Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
His works have been frequently exhibited in Hong Kong, as well as in Manchester, Tokyo, Singapore, Taipei, Paris, Seoul, and Tel Aviv. His work is collected by the Hong Kong Museum of Art and private collectors around the world.
Over the years, Tse Yim On has delved into and experimented with incorporating elements of pop culture into traditional artistic media. His paintings fuse Japanese anime and video game culture with the unique color separation techniques of Hong Kong comics, producing eccentric and uncanny hues. Through the use of intertextual symbols, his works become a contemporary ukiyo-e that narrates the cultural history of Hong Kong.
