Artist News|Ming Ren|Officially Acquired by the Tokyo National Museum

On June 12, 2025, at 1:00 PM, the Tokyo National Museum held an official ceremony to mark the acquisition of two ink paintings by Chinese-American artist Ming Ren: Contours of Light and Shadow (2014) and Trajectory of Light Wings(2014). The museum’s director personally presented the official certificate of acquisition to the artist, recognizing her artistic achievements and her contribution to the development of contemporary ink painting.

Both works, rendered in color ink on paper and mounted as hanging scrolls (230 x 52 cm), explore the interplay of light and shadow, motion and stillness. Fusing traditional Eastern ink techniques with modern abstraction, the paintings embody a dynamic energy that reflects both natural rhythms and inner consciousness. This acquisition not only affirms Ming Ren’s decades-long commitment to experimental and spiritual ink practices but also highlights the museum’s active engagement with contemporary ink art on a global scale.
