Lo Chan Peng Biography

In his early years, Lo Chan Peng received numerous prestigious awards both domestically and internationally. Notable among these are:

• The Grand Prize Winner of the 2023 Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize (all media)
• ARC Purchase Award
• ARC Honorary Mention in Portraiture
• ARC People’s Choice Award
• Federal Art Newcomer Award (2004)
• Chimei Art Award (2007)

 

Since 2011, he has participated in several major international art exchange programs as an artist-in-residence, including stints in Berlin, Germany (2011), and at the El Segundo Museum of Art (ESMoA) in Los Angeles, USA (2013).

In recent years, Lo Chan Peng has participated in significant exhibitions and art fairs, such as:

Lo Chan Peng’s work primarily revolves around portraiture, using mediums such as oil paint and ink. In his art, he often explores themes of time, history, and the dichotomy of life and death. Through highly detailed and realistic portraits, combined with elements of decay, damage, burning, and stains, he creates a powerful visual experience. This approach transforms abstract concepts like time and history into visible elements, forming his unique artistic language.

Recent themes in his work include “People Changed by History,” “Those Who Change History,” and “Light.” A distinctive feature of his portraits is the enigmatic and profound expressions of his subjects. Lo Chan Peng believes that this pure simplicity stems from his life experiences and is also the timeless pursuit of all great artists throughout history.
